The brief

Terracotta Store already had a name that meant something in the community. Miriam took over the shop with more than a decade of retail experience behind her, and after buying the business, one of the first things she wanted was to give the brand a refresh and bring it back to life. The identity she inherited didn't reflect the direction she wanted to build toward, and before touching stock, layout or anything else, she wanted the brand right first.

My approach

Before anything was designed, the priority was understanding what the name Terracotta actually meant to Miriam, the earthy colours she was drawn to, and the feeling she wanted the brand to evoke. Design followed the meaning, not the other way around. She was guided through each step and genuinely listened to, and the result is a brand that reflects her own vibe rather than a generic refresh.

The mark carries that same idea into its construction: a T wrapped by an S, the two letters forming the shape of an infinity symbol, a nod to how old and enduring terracotta is as a material, shaped by hand for thousands of years. The colour palette leans into the same earthy vibe, warm clay tones instead of anything trend-driven or cold.

Design highlights
  • A logo built to carry the name's existing recognition into a more considered, classy but down to earth identity
  • A colour palette reflecting the warmth and earthy character of terracotta itself
  • Signage that carries the new identity into the physical shop

Results

I couldn't be happier with the work Nathan Hurst Creative did for Terracotta Store. After purchasing the business, I wanted to give it a little refresh and bring the brand back to life, and Nathan understood exactly what I was looking for from the very beginning.

He took the time to really understand the meaning behind the name Terracotta, the earthy colours, the feeling I wanted the brand to evoke, and most importantly, my vibe. Throughout the whole process, Nathan was thoughtful, creative and incredibly easy to work with. He guided me through each step, listened carefully, and somehow turned all my ideas into something that felt completely “me”.

I highly recommend Nathan Hurst Creative, talented, intuitive and genuinely wonderful to work with!
